Hinayana Buddhism - Lack of substance

Hinayana Buddhism

Lack of substance

The wise grasps the fourfold emptiness disclosed in the words: "I am nowhere a somewhatness for any one, and nowhere for me is there a somewhatness of any one."

Therefore has it been said as follows:

"Dukkha only does exist, none miserable.
No doer is there; nothing but the deed is found.
Nirvana is, but not the man who seeks it.
The Path exists, but not the walker on it."
(Visuddhimagga -the Path of Purification- XVI, in H.C.Warren,
Buddhism in Translations, Cambridge Mass. 1915, p. 145)
